Mystic Aquarium is a First Rate Attraction in Connecticut

Mystic Aquarium is one of the best aquariums in the country. There is a variety of attractions here focusing on sea creatures but also conservation and nautical history related to Connecticut and the United States. There are more than 70 exhibits at the Aquarium including more than 425 species of animals from diverse parts of the world.

There are both indoors and outdoor exhibits at Mystic Aquarium. The Arctic Coast exhibit features the Aquarium’s beluga whales, which you can see up close in their one-acre outdoor habitat. There are three large viewing windows that provide visitors with the opportunity to see these magnificent creatures up close. You can also see Aquarium staff work closely with the belugas during live presentations held throughout the day.

Sea creatures aren’t the only animals featured in exhibits at Mystic Aquarium. Birds of the Outback is an enclosed aviary where visitors can interact with several species of birds that are native to Australia. Cockatiels, rosellas, and parakeets are among the colorful and friendly birds you can feed and learn about at this fascinating hands-on exhibit.

Hidden Amazon is an intriguing exhibit at Mystic Aquarium that introduces visitors to Rainforest habitats. You’ll see tarantulas, snakes, bats and piranha in naturalistic exhibits set up throughout the Amazon environment recreated at the Aquarium.  Exhibits including a variety of lizards, stingrays and other rainforest species teach visitors about the importance of conserving Rainforest habitat.

There is very impressive Titanic exhibit at Mystic Aquarium where you will see an incredibly 25-foot replica of the bow of the ship, a reproduction of the Marconi Radio Room, and an authentic replica of one of the Titanic’s boilers. Extensive expedition film footage is shown as part of the exhibit. You will learn about the voyage that ended in disaster and the death of over 1,500 people, but you will also learn about the impact exploration expeditions have on wreck sites beneath the sea.

Noah’s Flood and Ancient Shipwrecks is another intriguing indoor exhibit you can explore that focuses on an ancient shipwreck. An entire shipwreck that was discovered at the bottom of the Black Sea is recreated in this exhibit. You’ll see fascinating artifacts and learn about ancient Phoenician culture as well as deep-sea archaelogy as you examine this display.

You won’t want to miss the fun and educational sea lion shows that are held daily at the Marine Theatre at Mystic Aquarium. Sea lion trainers entice Coco, Surfer and the other California sea lions that live here to play with toys and perform impressive tricks.
